Paul Scott - born 25.03.1920 died 01.03.1978 - was an English novelist playwright & poet, who lasting works of renown are The Raj Quartet and Staying On. He was conscripted into the British Army as a private in 1940 finding him assigned to the Intelligence Corps. In 1943 he was posted as an officer cadet to India where he was eventually commissioned, ending the war in 1945 at the rank of Captain in the Indian Army Service Corps. His love for India developed as his time spent there grew. In 1950, Paul Scott joined the literary agents Pearn, Pollinger & Higham where he became a director.
