Following an emergency, the Devonshire villagers of Bilbury decide that they need their doctor back - and they aren't above a little chicanery to get their own way. As the young doctor reopens the surgery, he realizes just how much he has missed being the village doctor. Alongside his everyday medical dramas, there's a visit from an old friend, a wedding, a birth, the death of an old companion and constant excitement in the village shop and the local pub.
