Yohanan, born in India and converted to Christ around age 16, is the founder of Gospel for Asia. He moved to the United States originally for seminary training but has remained in the country to elicit support for the national Christians throughout Asia- for them to take the gospel to their people, often at the risk of being disowned from the family, torture, prison, or even death. Yohanan's thesis is that it is far more economical and fruitful to support the indigenous missionaries/church planters over sending Western missionaries to do the work. I agree with his viewpoint. He states that there is still a need for Western/American Christians to serve in the foreign field- for Bible translation, training of workers, and to go where there are no indigenous believers. Yet, the expense to send these missionaries are 50 times greater and the acceptance by the peoples is far lower. Yohanan shares much about Gospel for Asia's strategy to partner with local missionaries in Asia in the proclamation of the gospel and church planting.
