Brays Books opened in 1969 under the ownership of Philip and Margaret Bray and has been providing professional service and a wide range of books ever since.

Philip Bray is now the sole owner. He also founded The New South wales Independent Booksellers’ Group in 1978.

Brays Kids Books is a shop within the shop and is a mecca for kids of all ages. There are book readings from specialist children’s booksellers each Monday and Wednesday morning.

Brays Books is Balmain’s only independent bookshop and being locally owned enables us to make our business decisions and stock selections with our customers’ needs and preferences in mind.
